The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics program where teams design, build, and program industrial-size robots to compete head-to-head in complex field games. Guided by mentors, students develop advanced STEM skills, practice engineering principles, and learn the value of innovation. The competition scales from regional events to the FIRST World Championship: the pinnacle of student robotics globally.

Team Elev8 (7539) was founded in 2019 by a small group of students from Dhirubhai Ambani International School. At the time, Mumbai had little to no robotics footprint. The rookie team stopped waiting for a community and built one from the ground up.
Their impact was immediate. They reached the Curie Division of the FIRST World Championship in their very first season and secured the Rookie All Star Award at the Hudson Valley Regional. Elev8 also earned a Woodie Flowers Finalist Award during their debut year. Following online recognition for leadership and engineering outreach in 2021 and 2022, the team returned to physical play by claiming the Autonomous Award in 2023 and the Gracious Professionalism Award in 2024.

For years, Elev8 built the local ecosystem; in 2025, they became its champions. They became the first Indian team in history to captain a winning alliance at a Regional event, winning both the Istanbul and Haliç Regionals in Turkey. They swept Istanbul completely unbeaten and finished Haliç with only two losses. Elev8 left Turkey with two Winning Alliance Captain blue banners, an Excellence in Engineering Award, and silver medals for the Engineering Inspiration Award. At the World Championship in Houston, they secured the Creativity Award in the Galileo Division, achieving the furthest playoff run of any Indian team and cementing India's place on the global robotics map.

Team Elev8 has maintained their exceptional standard into the 2026 season. At the FRC Ankara Regional, they remained unbeaten to rank first in qualification matches and emerged as the Winning Alliance Captain. They received the Excellence in Engineering award for their high mechanical quality. They replicated this dominance at the FRC Başkent Regional, placing second while remaining undefeated in the qualification stage and joining the Winning Alliance. Littelfuse sponsored their second Excellence in Engineering award of the season, celebrating a machine with seamlessly integrated engineering solutions. Team Elev8 has now qualified for the exclusive World Championships in Houston to compete for the world title once again.

Trophies are only half of Elev8's legacy. To spread the mission of FIRST, they began at home. In 2022, Elev8 founded DAIS FTC teams Matrix and Eureka. These teams rapidly evolved into a powerhouse ecosystem, with Matrix becoming FTC World Champions in 2025. The legacy continues with DAIS's newest team, Kryptonite, founded in 2025. Back home, Elev8 sustained the ecosystem by hosting the India West Regionals and running their 'Elev-aid' Robot Clinic at Nationals for the past three years.
Elev8 realized that school-by-school intervention was not enough and pushed for systemic change:

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a robotics competition for students in grades 7–12, where teams design, build, and program robots to compete head-to-head in an alliance format against teams from around the world. Guided by coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills, practise engineering principles, and learn the value of hard work, innovation, and teamwork.
The competition scales from local qualifiers and regional championships all the way to the FIRST World Championship — the pinnacle of student robotics globally. On and off the field, students engage in community outreach, engineering innovation, and build the confidence and skills to carry them far beyond the classroom.

What began as a small robotics programme in 2022 has rapidly evolved into a national and now global force. With a dedicated makerspace and a full-sized playfield, the school provides robust support for hands-on STEM learning. Today, DAIS fields three competitive FTC teams with a combined record of national titles, world records, and historic firsts that no other school in India can match.

Founded in 2022, Team Matrix is the crown jewel of DAIS robotics and one of the most accomplished student FTC teams on the planet.
Their rise was immediate. At the 2022 Nationals, they announced themselves with runner-up finishes in the Inspire, Innovate, and Think Awards — a near-sweep of all three major judged categories on debut. In 2023, team captain Anoushka Tandon won the prestigious National Dean's List Award, one of FTC's highest individual honours. That same year, the team reached the finals of both the APAC Off-Season and the India Regionals, adding a Motivate Award runner-up at APOC along the way.
In 2025, alongside Team Eureka, they made history at the India Nationals by setting a new FTC world record with an astounding score of 480 points, surpassing the previous record of 452. Team Matrix went unbeaten throughout the nationals, earned the Inspire Award runner-up, and captained the winning alliance — their ticket to Houston.
At the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship 2025, they were simply unstoppable. As winners of the Ochoa Division, Team Matrix emerged as FTC World Champions, their alliance recording five of the top ten highest scores in the entire tournament — including a staggering 541 points in the final — and earning 2nd place in the Think Award for excellence in engineering design and strategy. They are the first Indian team in history to win the FTC World Championship — a milestone that has placed DAIS, and India, firmly on the global STEM map. Their excellence has continued into 2026, where they have already claimed the Inspire Award runner-up at the C.V. Raman West India Regional — proof that the standard they have set shows no sign of letting up.

Founded alongside Team Matrix in 2022, Team Eureka has been a powerhouse in their own right from day one — building a legacy of consistent excellence across every season they have competed.
In their debut year, they won the Innovate Award at the India Championships, captained the first alliance, and went on to win the APOC championship, also earning the Control Award runner-up. The following season brought more success — they captained the winning alliance at the India Nationals again and reached the division semi-finals at the World Championship. In 2024, they went one better, winning the Connect Award and again leading the winning alliance at Nationals.
In 2025, they were selected as first pick in Team Matrix's alliance for Houston, and together the two DAIS teams made history. Both teams emerged as global finalists, competing head-to-head in an unprecedented all-DAIS Grand Final at the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship 2025 — something that had never happened before in FTC. Together, they had shattered previous world scoring records by a 30-point margin even before reaching Houston. Team Eureka were finalist alliance first pick on the world stage, a fitting reflection of how far this team has come.

DAIS's newest team, founded in 2025, has wasted no time making its mark. In their very first season, they won the APAC Off-Season as an alliance partner — a remarkable debut by any measure.
At the 2026 West India Regional, they claimed 3rd Alliance and the Think Award — showcasing their engineering quality from the very start. They then carried that momentum into the 2026 Nationals, where they achieved a 5th place team ranking, earned a spot in the 2nd Alliance, and took home the Connect Award. For a team in only their second season, it is an extraordinary foundation — and a sign of exciting things to come.

From the 23rd to 26th of March, we, #7539 Team Elev8 participated in the Sacramento Regionals and from the 30th of March to the 2nd of April, we participated in the Central Valley Regionals. Both the competitions were unique in their own regard, and were fantastic learning experiences. Sacramento has historically been one of the most competitive FRC regionals with there being 3 past World Champions among other very experienced teams. Central Valley was an opportunity for us to network with newer teams like ourselves while also interacting with some of the older teams. Most of the teams were from California itself and we were proud to be the only team from India.
In both competitions, Elev8 was able to make its mark on the first practice day itself. We were able to win multiple matches, displaying our consistent 2-ball autonomous and fantastic hangar that could reliably get to the traversal rung. In Central Valley, our vision and image processing allowed us to accurately shoot balls into the upper hub in the driver controlled period as well. In the following two competition days, we were able to win multiple matches, as we formed alliances with other teams. Eventually we ended up becoming captains of the 6th and 7th seeded alliances at Sacramento and Central Valley respectively.
The highlight of the Sacramento Regional was that our Safety Captain, Kyra Roy, received the Safety Star Award for being exemplary at ensuring safety not only within our team but also ensuring that other teams were keeping safe. At Central Valley we won the Entrepreneurship Award that celebrates their entrepreneurial spirit and comprehensive business plan that displays the vital planning and business skills to ensure a self-sustaining program. She Empowers STEM:
Since inception, Team Elev8 has been heavily involved in the upliftment of girls in STEM. We have been actively involved with training and mentoring girls, helping them learn about STEM and robotics through our flagship programme, She Empowers STEM.
We started by reaching out to girls across the country, speaking to them about the importance of STEM and what STEM can add to their lives. We were able to encourage many new girls to join our skill-building programmes, helping them learn vital 21st century skills. Then, we brought these girls together to form 4 new all-girls teams for various FIRST competitions including FTC and FGC. Some of these teams comprise of girls from NGOs who have no background in technology or engineering.
Team Elev8 also hosted TrailBlazHER, an all-girls innovation challenge, where girls were encouraged to come up with innovative projects to solve real-world issues. Around 400 girls from across the country participated. We also conducted panel discussions and webinars and webinars with these girls to provide them with their stepping stones into robotics and FIRST.
Moreover, for the past year we have been the regional partners for FIRST Ladies, an organisation geared towards promoting FIRST among girls. As part of this, we have written blog posts that go up on their website and plan to conduct hackathons and design challenges.
In March 2022, when we went to California, for the FRC regional competition, as ambassadors of FIRST Ladies, we helped boost girls' self-esteem by getting each of them to speak about one of their strengths.
We have been able to impact the lives of hundreds of girls across the world and hope to continue to do the same in the future!

Build FIRST India: Build FIRST India, an initiative by Team Elev8 is the perfect example of how lockdown can be productively spent. This week-long series was an incredibly holistic experience for our entire team. We were honoured to get the opportunity to host:
The lineup of 8 speakers was extraordinary on paper, but interacting with them in real-time was awe-inspiring to another degree. Hearing mentors and leaders who have achieved so much offer their valuable contributions to us was so helpful and certainly encouraged us to leap even further towards our outreach goals. With our viewer count averaging 85-100 people per session, we were able to reach out to many young and aspiring bright minds and thinkers and inspire them, showing them the wonders of STEM and of innovation.
Our Build FIRST India series was designed to spread awareness of FIRST, STEM and Robotics among students across various schools in India. Through the invaluable insights shared by FIRST Mentors, alumni and speakers from the corporate world and the government, the students got an exposure to the world of FIRST, STEM, and robotics.

Robotics Deconstructed: Through this program we were able to start 9 new FTC/FRC teams. We had 14 student mentors from Team Elev8 teaching the WPI Programming Course, the Java Fundamentals course and the Computer Aided Design (CAD) course. We were pleased to see the enthusiasm of the students and were motivated further by the large number of participants. With over 130 participants in the programming courses and over 90 participants in the CAD course we conducted 230+ sessions. Overall, we were able to reach out to 1000+ parents, mentors and students over 11 webinars!
1. WPI deconstructed: Students learned how to create advanced robot control functions using the WPI Software Library.
2. Java Fundamentals: We taught students Object Oriented programming in Java, and how to use their skills to make programs with real world applications. It was a very enriching experience, as we got to share our love for programming with aspiring young who were very interested in the subject, and we got to spread knowledge about how to program industrial grade robots and have fun doing it!
3. CAD Deconstructed: We taught the students how to go about using CAD software Fusion 360 to conceptualize, design, implement, and analyse the various parts and mechanisms of industrial grade robots. Starting from scratch, at the end of the course students were able to convert 2D sketches to 3D objects, create joints, apply appearances to models and change their materials, and use simulations to test out designs. Whether students were interested in engineering, biotechnology, automobile design or even computer graphics, CAD allowed them to channel their interests and creativity effectively.

We at Team Elev8 strive to provide equal opportunities to everyone. With inclusiveness at the heart of our outreach model, we started our She Empowers STEM program. We conducted robotics workshops with 80+ girls from grades 5-9 in our school, where we taught them how to program some robots to carry out basic functions such as moving in a straight line, turning, moving along a curved path, etc. using Lego MINDSTORM software.
We started an all-girls FTC team with passionate and highly driven girls to give them the platform that they deserve to showcase their talent and curiosity and to give them the opportunity to try their hand at robotics construction and programming in a competitive setting. Lastly, we also conducted a webinar for under-privileged girls to create awareness about the limitless possibilities that exist for them in the field of STEM and to inspire them to pursue their interests in STEM

The coronavirus has impacted the entire world, but disproportionately so. The worldwide implementation of the lockdown severely affected the education of millions of children around the world, who didn’t have adequate access to technology to continue their studies through an online platform. We decided to train NGO mentors who did have access to technology how to use Fusion 360, a CAD software. We also interacted with students from the NGO Spark A Change, and taught them how they could apply the basic concepts learnt in Fusion 360 to design and model 3D objects - teaching them an essential skill and preparing them for the future.
While multiple students shared a laptop due to limited resources, the experience was a truly memorable one. Not only were they extremely excited to learn, their enthusiasm and quick grasp of the concepts helped re-instill the fact that everyone has the same potential, the opportunity and exposure gained is what makes a difference.
We at Team Elev8 are working towards helping these students prepare to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge, a global robotics competition, to increase their exposure and give them exciting opportunities.

Date with Elev8 is an ongoing series of webinars where we invited speakers from various backgrounds such as marketing and engineering to, firstly, build skills and more importantly, provide the students with exposure to various relevant fields and subsequently, inspiration. So far, we have hosted Ms. Surbhi Bhatia, CEO of the Mom Store, who spoke to us about social media marketing. And Padhma Vibhushan nuclear physicist Dr. Anil Kakodkar who outlined his experiences in STEM and ruminated about a future steeped in technology.
