Interactions with Michael, a Unitree G1 humanoid robot – initiative of the Robtics and AI parent Interest Group

Our students had an exciting opportunity to interact with Michael, a Unitree G1 humanoid robot from the Mumbai Robotics Development Centre, on Thursday, 27 November 2025. They watched demonstrations of Michael’s movements and explored how voice commands work on the robot.

Students were then invited to reflect on how Robotics and AI might shape our future—both in everyday life and in contributing to the well-being of our planet. Their responses were thoughtful and insightful, and their curiosity was evident in the many questions they posed.

It was a truly engaging experience, and the students were thrilled to meet Michael. A heartfelt thank you to our AI and Robotics Parent Committee for making this wonderful learning opportunity possible.

Strong Minds Safe Spaces: Equipping parents to nurture mental well-being

Our Parent Workshops began this year with thoughtful and engaging sessions designed to strengthen the school-home partnership. We had a fireside chat titled Strong Minds Safe Spaces: Equipping parents to nurture mental well-being facilitated by Little Nest Parent Community with the renowned Child, Adolescent & Family Psychiatrist Dr Zirak Marker and Ms. Monita Sen Head of EYC on World, Mental Health Day. The engaging conversation invited parents of LN and Junior School to reflect on how to nurture emotional safety and resilience in children. It also provided valuable tips to parents on handling screen time, bullying, having hard conversations with children, physical and mental health.

Parent Symposium 2025 - Empowering Parents, Enriching Families

A major initiative of the year was the Parenting Symposium on 15th November 2025 which brought together parents, educators, and experts for a day of collective learning.Our Inaugural session of Parent Symposium generated tremendous warmth, engagement, and appreciation, as our parent community came together to learn, reflect, and grow alongside our experts and educators.

The day began with a powerful and insightful Keynote Address by Dr. Avinash De Sousa, whose practical strategies and compassionate guidance offered clarity and solutions that deeply resonated with parents. WPI Suwarna Shinde urged families to critically reflect on the perils of sharing personal information online, reinforcing the urgency of digital safety and mindful social media use.

Throughout the morning, parents participated in a series of enriching breakout sessions by experts like Rupal Patel, Dr, Priyanka Puri, Piya Marker, Juhi Agarwal, Udayan Philip, Sohrab Khushrushahi, Dr. Desousa, Vishakha Punjani and Vasundhara Sanghi to explore the many dimensions of parenting today. Conversations ranged from creating nurturing home environments and building strong emotional connections with children, to cultivating respect, kindness, and empathy. Parents engaged with practical approaches to navigating the teen years, deepening communication through active listening, and strengthening family wellbeing through mindful habits, nutrition, and fitness. They also reflected on guiding children toward responsible online behaviour and aligning daily parenting choices with personal values. Each session offered meaningful insights and actionable strategies that parents found immensely valuable.

Narrative Writing Workshop - IGCSE G8

DAIS had organized a narrative writing workshop on 13th February'25. Conducted by Ms. Ambika Vora Nagino, a DAIS alumni and the esteemed author of the critically acclaimed novel 'Spin of Fate', the immersive workshop on narrative writing was an engaging experience that provided deep insights into the world of fiction through various activities. It covered all the elements of storytelling: world-building, characterisation, prose and voice, and plot, through thought-provoking questions, group discussions, and interesting examples. In a space full of unique ideas and fantastic creativity, learners developed their own characters and their own worlds. As the different aspects were tied together, all the young writers were now equipped with a cohesive framework to write their own stories. Ms. Vora Nagino also shared her personal writing experiences, inspiring a generation of excited learners to take upon their own journeys in literature.

IGCSE History Students visit NCPA

The history students went to the NCPA to see a photo exhibition by the famous war photographer Robert Capa. They found pictures from the wars they were studying, like World War Two. They pretended to be historians and talked about why each picture was important and what surprised them. Then they talked about how wars affect people's minds and how photographers help us remember history. The students loved this real, human look at war—it gave them new insights that they couldn't get from just reading textbooks.

Gender Justice & Leadership: IB Students Engage with Dr. Vibha Bakshi

On the 25th of November 2024 Global Politics Department (students and teachers) marked United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism, and the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by inviting Dr. Vibha Bakshi, parent of the school and renowned advocate of gender equality through the medium of her films, to address IB students. Her films Daughters of Mother India and Son Rise have won National Film Awards from the President of India. She was accompanied virtually by Ms. Wyatt, the UN’s Chief of Education Outreach, and together they emphasised the importance gender justice as a foundation for leadership, inclusivity, and empathy - that will shape the institutions students enter, the workplaces they join, and the communities they build.

The event was attended by all IB students.

As expressed by a student of the department- “Listening to Dr. Vibha Bakshi talk was an unforgettable experience. She did not simply discuss gender equality; she made it feel real, emotional, and urgent. She communicated to us the struggles young women go through every day, especially in rural areas, through personal experiences.”

IBDP students win the Infinity Math Competition

DAIS IBDP G 11 &12 students win big at the Infinity Math Competition'25 organised by Aditya Birla World Academy, in association with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.

Moksh Nihalani won the "Mathematician of the Year" award (Top 3 out of 1500 students) Dhruv Chopra won the Gold award (Winner of Individual Round) Raahil Mullick won the Silver award (Runner up of Individual Round)

Infinity is the ultimate Math Championship organised annually by Aditya Birla World Academy, in association with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. Since its inaugural edition in 2014, Infinity attracts top notch brains not only from India but also from overseas. With every passing year, the popularity of this enigmatic competition has been growing among students.

Team Awards:
Out of 500 teams participating, DAIS stood in the Top 5 position. Team DAIS bagged Runner-Up in the “Quizzitch” Round and the “Math Challengers” Round. Our students brought back 4 trophies and 15 certificates overall!

IBDP G 12 students host Economics Summit 2024

Curated by our talented Grade 12 IBDP students, Anant Bhartia, Rushaan Agarwal, and Drishti Agarwal, this pioneering event explored "The Indian Economy and India’s Economic Future."

Highlights of the day were the expert insights from:

• Mr. Maran Govindasamy, Executive Director at Unifi Capital
• Dr. Joseph Thomas, Head of Research at Emkay Wealth Management
• Dr. Pallavi Mody, Faculty at SP Jain Institute of Management

Engaging discussions, led by Anant and Rushaan, allowed students to dive deeper into key economic issues, followed by invaluable research tips from our panellists. The summit closed with an exciting debate and essay competition, where students showcased their passion for economics and thoughtful perspectives on India’s future.

Kudos to our students and speakers for making this a memorable event, packed with insights and inspiration!

DAIS Named Runners-Up School of the Year at IB League

The IB LEAGUE 2024 event was held by the Jaishree Periwal International School, Jaipur over 28-29th September 2024. Seventeen IBDP Year 11 students and one IGCSE Class 10 student participated in various competitions like the STEM Challenge, Debate, the Entrepreneurship Challenge, and Essay Writing Competition.

Our students made outstanding presentations and pitches for the rounds organized. They won the following awards and recognitions:

• STEM team - Hridank Garodia, Anshul Bhatt, Agastyaa Goradia, Agasthya Bhatia and Arzoo Maheshwari of Year 11 won the First place
• Anshul Bhatt won ‘The Most Valued player’ award in STEM and he will also get the opportunity to publish a paper with Lumiere Education.PEssay Writing Competition. Illisha Avasthi of Year 11 won the Second place.
• Entrepreneurship category -
  • Recognition award for Case Study to Aahana Khemani, Ranveer Sharma, and Aryahi Agarwal

Math-A-Maze

Students of IGCSE Grade 8 hosted Math-A-Maze showcasing their Maths learning through 19 innovative board games which challenged the visitors to test their logical and problem-solving skills. Students created a series of original, thoroughly enjoyable and innovative games like Escape Equations, Spacing out, Divide & Conquer, Mathapoly, Sum Swap and many more! The games were based on topics studied in class.

Inter House Hindi Debate 2023

On the 2nd and 7th of June, students of Class 10A organized the Inter-House Hindi Debate 2023. The preliminary rounds were Tigers vs Jaguars and Lions vs Panthers. The two winning teams, Jaguars and Panthers, went on to the final round.

The topic of the final round was: "Artificial Intelligence has replaced the human mind". Jaguars went on to win the debate, with Best Speaker being a Jaguar House debater, Anoushka Tandon (9A). This Debate Competition was successful in motivating students to debate on several pressing global issues and in instilling in them a passion for public speaking in Hindi!

Global Politics Expert Speaker Session

IBDP Global Politics students engaged with an extremely informative and inspirational session on “Technology and Geopolitics” with Mr. Arindrajit Basu. Time flew as he shared his deep academic knowledge of emerging technologies on governance of cyberspace and his rich experiences as a specialist Consultant on technology geopolitics with Ikigai Law. Mr. Basu held the students enthralled with history of the internet and its impact on sovereignty, concept of weaponized interdependence, with well-developed case studies on US China Tech War, India’s Cyber Diplomacy and Cybersecurity at the United Nations. Academic aspirations, future career goals and opening of new vistas were the highlights for students!”

The students had insightful reflections post the session and these display amply the rich dimensions of experiential learning in subjects.

Prisha Israni (IBDP 11) felt highly enthused by the session and said “Mr. Arindrajit Basu has followed a trajectory in academics and career similar to the one I wish to follow and conversing with him even after his session was extremely interesting and useful for me.”

Aditya Ankhad (IBDP 11) too had a similar takeaway – “The external speaker, Arindrajit Basu, provided a phenomenal learning experience for me. For instance, he explained the concept of weaponized interdependence, which I found to be a novel and intriguing perspective and is something I would like to look into further.”

Rushaan Agarwal (IBDP 11) expressed post the session- “This really showed me whilst liberalist theories of optimism towards human nature exist we see a trend where nations often only act in self-interest.”

Learning in Global Politics

“I learnt about different concepts such as legitimacy, territorial dispute, possession of resources, economic power, diplomacy and the power of negotiations. The example of Barotseland is an intriguing one and you might find it in my GLOPOL essays as an example in the near future.”

This reflection by a student of Grade 11 is a vivid insight into the value the students gained from the session with Mr. Nalumino who has wealth of a lived experience as part of the Barotseland royal family of Zambia - Western Province. The session demonstrated that intangible concepts of power and legitimacy can be understood through anecdotal evidence from primary participants of power. Who better than a faculty member, who also enriches the music department, to enlighten the students with his interesting talk!

IBDP Interdisciplinary Debate

Grade 12 students Ahaan Jindal, Vivaan Turakhia, Moksh Jhaveri, Kshitig Seth, Aarna Sanghai, and Nidaa Kagalwalla organised an interdisciplinary debate for the IBDP students on 28th February, 2023. Each team comprised of 6 delegates who together encompassed a broad range of perspectives from the domains of Economics, History, and Global Politics. The delegates debated the topic: "China's lending policy is motivated by neo-colonialism." The debate provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their interdisciplinary knowledge and hone their critical thinking and communication skills.

Historical Perspectives - IBDP History

Grade 11 - As part of the IB history course, students are required to include the perspective of different historians in their essay. This activity got the students to take on the role of various historians and to have a panel discussion in which they gave their interpretation of a particular event. In this instance, the students had an animated discussion on whether the October Revolution was a popular revolution or a coup. The extreme views of some historians, and the students' commitment to the roles assigned gave rise to an animated debate!

Grade 8 - In this activity, students had to summarise creatively their understanding of Gandhian principles after watching the film Gandhi by Richard Attenborough.

Grade 11 - In this activity, students had to summarise the events leading to the rise of Stalin. They were each assigned a causal factor and were asked to draw a section of a comic strip illustrating it. All the students were drawing at the same time, which added to the fun of the activity. This was a creative and entertaining way to synthesise a complicated event - perfect for a Thursday afternoon class!

History Global Perspectives Debate

History (Grade 9) meets politics (Grade 11) in an invigorating debate on the "Do we learn from the mistakes of the past?" with special focus on current war between Russia and Ukraine. Impressive levels of knowledge, superb communication skills and high levels of critical commentary were evident as the juniors matched the seniors in spirit of agreeing to disagree!

It's time to start learning from the young !

IBDP Grade 11 Economics Debate

The Econ Department held a live inter-class debate on a real-world issue of high social, economic, and political gravity— Whether sanitary napkins should be made free by the Indian government? Students showed enthusiasm in their well-articulated arguments that were backed by strong economic rationale and statistical evidence. It helped students to delve deeper into the issue and gain a nuanced understanding of concepts they learn in class.

75 th Independence Day Celebration

DAIS students were addressed by Head Boy Kshitig Seth and Head Girl Devika Kothari on the importance of the 75th Independence day. The inspired students by delivering speeches in English and Hindi respectively. This auspicious day also saw IBDP students participate in the Inter House Dramatics competition. Throughout the week, students engaged in activities and discussions that aimed to commemorate the 75th Independence Day.
