Celebrating Linguistic Diversity

International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide on 21st February, to promote linguistic and cultural diversity. At DAIS, this day was commemorated with a series of activities involving the entire school community, including students, teachers, and even grandparents. The event aimed at celebrating languages spoken within the school community and beyond.

The Primary and Middle school students gathered at break-time for a sing-along in various Indian and foreign languages. This activity fostered a sense of unity and appreciation for different cultures among our young learners.

During registration time, several Middle school children took on the role of storytellers as they read to the primary students in native languages.

A heartwarming feature of the event was the avid participation of some of our grandparents, who were invited to share stories and anecdotes in various mother languages. This intergenerational exchange not only enriched the student's understanding of different languages but also strengthened bonds within families and the school community.

The MYP students participated in a hands-on activity by translating simple English stories into local or foreign languages they knew or had learned. These stories will be added to the library collection, for all to read.

An interactive language board was prominently placed in the ground floor atrium, serving as a focal point for students to explore words, greetings, and phrases in various languages and cultures. This interactive experience encouraged curiosity and engagement.

To further immerse the school community in the celebration, posters in different languages adorned the campus. Students and staff were seen learning and appreciating the multicultural resources.

The celebration of International Mother Language Day was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts and enthusiastic participation of our students, teachers, grandparents, and the entire school community. The event succeeded in promoting unity, inclusivity, and cultural diversity.

As we reflect on the importance of preserving and celebrating our mother languages, let us continue to cherish and treasure the richness they bring to our lives.
