Kick for a cause Project

The “Kick for a Cause” football tournament was organized as part of the IB CAS initiative to support the work of the Oscar Foundation, a non-profit organization that empowers children from underserved communities through football and education. The event aimed to combine sport with social impact, using football as a platform to raise awareness and funds for the foundation’s programs.

The tournament was conceptualized, planned, and executed entirely by the student organizing team. Responsibilities were divided across logistics, sponsorship outreach, marketing, team registrations, and on-ground coordination. Weeks prior to the event, the team secured a venue, designed promotional material, and reached out to local schools and community teams to encourage participation. Registrations exceeded expectations, reflecting strong community interest and support for the cause.

On the day of the tournament, multiple teams competed in a structured knockout format. The matches were conducted under standard football regulations, with student referees and volunteers ensuring fair play and smooth transitions between games. The atmosphere was energetic and inclusive, with participants, spectators, and volunteers united by a shared purpose. Alongside the matches, donation drives and awareness announcements highlighted the mission of the Oscar Foundation and its impact on children’s lives.

The tournament successfully raised significant funds, all of which were directed towards supporting the foundation’s educational and sports initiatives. Beyond fundraising, the event fostered teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills among the organizers. Challenges such as last-minute schedule adjustments and coordination issues were managed collaboratively, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.

Overall, “Kick for a Cause” was not only a sporting event but also a meaningful community engagement project. It exemplified how youth-led initiatives can leverage sport to create tangible social change while embodying the core values of CAS: creativity, activity, and service.
