Our CAS project, the Dhirubhai Ambani International School Math Olympiad (DAISMO), was a collaborative and multifaceted initiative that required careful planning, creativity, and teamwork. From the beginning, our goal was to design a competition that would challenge students while still remaining accessible and engaging for a wide range of participants.
One of our primary responsibilities was constructing the exam papers. Working together as a team, we developed questions for two age categories: Juniors (Grades 8-10) and Seniors (Grades 11-12). The questions were loosely based on the IGCSE and IBDP mathematics syllabi, but we designed them to emphasize logical thinking and problemsolving rather than straightforward syllabus recall. This process involved multiple rounds of brainstorming, drafting, and reviewing questions. To ensure that the difficulty level and clarity were appropriate, we also tested several of the problems with individuals outside the DAISMO team and incorporated their feedback before finalizing the papers.
Beyond the academic component, we were responsible for organizing and promoting the event. As a team, we designed posters, drafted outreach emails, and created engaging social media reels that followed current trends in order to attract attention. We also contacted over 40 schools via email, inviting them to participate in the competition. This outreach proved successful, as we received a strong response and a large number of registrations.
DAISMO In Session
The Olympiad itself was conducted online through Exam.net and consisted of two rounds: a qualifier round and a final round. During the exams, we actively monitored participants in real time to ensure the process ran smoothly and fairly. We also addressed participant questions and technical doubts whenever possible. Overall, DAISMO allowed us to apply our mathematical interests while developing valuable skills in teamwork, communication, organization, and leadership.
